Biography
I brought Felix home in 2006, shortly before my 18th birthday. I had been researching the breed for several years and knew it was the breed for me - their good looks and their versatility was part of what attracted me. I haven't been disappointed!
Felix was a model
puppy, being the star of training classes and passing his KC Good
Citizen Bronze award at just 18 weeks old. He has since gone on
to pass his Silver and Gold awards.
I started taking him to breed shows once he was 6 months old and
he qualified for Crufts 2007 at his first championship show. At
his first Crufts, he went on to win two 1st places making him the
Best Puppy Dog in Breed, only beaten by his litter sister for
Best Puppy in Breed.
He has continued to do well at shows, culminating in winning
Reserve Best Dog at Bath and Bournemouth Championship Shows 2009,
and 3rd in Open Dog with tough competition at Crufts 2010. He has
gained many BOB and several group placements at open shows, and
is heading towards gaining his ShCM title. We hope that his show
successes will continue as he matures.
I started
training him in agility once he was a year old, and he took to it
brilliantly. We begun competing in 2008 and he excelled, winning
a 2nd place in Maxi Agility at UKA Staverton 08 and winning out
of beginners. We have taken a break from agility but hope to
return to it soon.
Felix has also shown promise in obedience, having been awarded
the KC Obedience Award of Merit at his first and only official
obedience show.
Unfortunately I have not been able to do any serious gundog work with him, but we practice with dummies when we can and he shows good natural retrieving ability on land and water.
He made his stage debut in May 2010 playing the part of Sandy in a production of Annie by the Frome Ameteur Operatic Society. He stole the show and loved every minute of it - his tail never stopped wagging! Pictures can be seen here.
He shows the typical Toller character - he is calm and laid back in the house, but is always ready and raring to go when required! He always tries his best with anything thrown at him and has taken well to clicker training. He loves people and adores kids, and wants to make friends with everyone. Despite this, he is a sensitive boy who loves me above all others and would do anything to please me. He has taught me so much and got me addicted to this wonderful breed. He is one in a million and a joy to own!
